What a great weekend at The California Classic Alpaca Show!!

Congratulations to Bob & Kerry Anderson A Star Alpacas!

They bid on and won California's Classic, donated by Lassen View Alpacas for the UC Davis Scholarship fun. We enjoyed the experience and hope Bob & Kerry will enjoy their new girl.

August 2009

Aside from cooling off a very hot area, one of the benefits of irrigated pastures is the visitors we get on irrigation day. Always a joy to watch and just staying for short visits, we get a variety of water fowl visiting.

Thought I'd share this morning visits with you.

Canada Geese
Our Anatolian Shepherd - TC

July 08, 2009 is a sad day at Lassen View Alpacas.

We had to say good-bye to our faithful guardian TC. TC came to us in December 1999 when he did not work out at a sheep farm as a guardian.

He really was just a pup then, and he did not work out as he wanted to play instead of work. The sheep ranchers did not want their lambs chased so he was pulled in from the fields. We worked with TC and in the beginning never let him be alone with the alpacas. In a few short months he began to calm down and take his job seriously.

Over the years, he has kept watch over the alpacas, our chickens and our family. He was really a special part of our lives...

Dearest TC - we'll meet you at the Rainbow Bridge

We had a great showing at California Classic this year.
My two favorite girls both rec'd Reserve Champion Awards in their respective classes. We were excited!!

We really appreciate all that the show teams do to put on these wonderful shows.

1st place and Reserve is LV Sensation

2nd place and Reserve is LV Bella Gris

We're looking forward to the fall show season.

A spectacular little grey male!

Lalique

Antares, our lovely medium rose gray male has sired his first cria!

Antares x Lalique: DOB 03/15/2009 A gorgeous little black female. 18lbs - up and running in no time!

To date, Lalique has delivered 3 beautiful female for us all either gray or black.

Christmas morning 2008 we went into the barn and were quite surprised with this little visitor. We've only ever had hens so a rooster rather startled us. I named him "Good Fortune" because I like telling people we had "Good Fortune" at Lassen View Alpacas on Chrismas day.

A few days later, some friends visited with their little Boston Terrier who thought it was great sport to bark at our Good Fortune so Fortune left us.

We soon found he'd moved into our neighbors barn. But they have no hens so once again, Good Fortune returned to Lassen View Alpacas.

Who can believe that in January we'd be at 70 degree weather!! We are so fortunate and today we have the most beautiful "Lassen View"

shorn cria

OCT 25, 2008 - some of the local breeders came over and we had a cria shearing.  I didn't think to take pictures but the others have shared theirs with me.

Here are some of the cria that came to visit for the day and get their lovely fleeces shorn.

We think we have just done grand this year with our new crop of cria.

bay black cria

Another female Sentinel cria and she is fabulous!

This lovely bay black female was born Oct 1st and tried to come into this world on her back. With a little help from Dr. Betsy, she was turned and safely delivered. We've decided to name her after our wonderful vet so I am introducing

grey alpaca cria
Stormie

Currently, Stormie is on loan to Oak Creek Alpacas. They've had an orphaned cria and Stormie is willing to nurse any cria. She has plenty of milk, is not pregnant and is in good condition. Stormie's cria had just been weaned.

We've done the transition after Celestyn lost her mom due to esophogeal blockage.

Both Celestyn and Stormie are doing well.

July - our local group "AlpacaStars" participated in the Lambtown fair this year and were quite successful. Lots of vendors with lots of colors - fleece from sheep, goat, rabbit and of course alpaca. We made new friends and met many old ones.

A small but lovely fair.

Fire news from Lassen View.

We are fortunate to be on irrigated acres so except for the thick smoke - have been unaffected by the fire at the ranch. I did have to evacuate my horse from Platina. We took a ride up and the fire did get right to the road but did not get to the barn. Jupiter is currently safely residing in a beautiful facility in Gerber until we can take him back up the to the ranch.

Thanks to all who have written and asked about us.

**************************************

We had a call from Anatolian rescue to pick up poor little Andre from the vet and we needed to foster him for a few days until he headed to his new home. He was found on Highway 5 and had a broken hip. At only 9 weeks old he really has been a wonderful house guest.

You can see TC does not mind him a bit either.
